Hehe. I don’t know what made me think of this. Possibly the 20/20 special on Gender Identity Disorder that I watched yesterday. When I was in grad school, my friend Tom and I had shared the same office for a semester or two, and then an additional graduate assistant was assigned into the same office as us. I guess that was no big deal. Except that no one knew he/she’s gender. I believe that he/she was Chinese, so that made the name even more ambiguous to us. I can honestly say that we never found out if he/she was male or female. Although one time I heard a professor use “he” in reference to him. But I’ve also noticed that Asian people don’t use “he” and “she” properly many times. So who knows if he/she would ever correct anyone. Ah well. Just another of those awkward situations.
