Am I the only person to admit that I never read any of the books I was supposed to throughout grade school for book reports..? I don’t think I read one book all the way through until high school. For real. I remember I used to think that there was something wrong with me because either I would be sitting there staring at the words that would start to blur and double in my vision, or I would “read” a whole page of text and absorb absolutely nothing out of it. How did I get by? It probably wasn’t until I failed 11th grade english that I finally realized I was going to have to actually start putting forth some effort.
It has to be sooo much easier for kids to cheat at this these days. I’m sure you can find a wealth of summaries of books on the internet that you can copy bits and pieces of…Where the fuck was Google when I was growing up? I mean it is probably a little too obvious to have copied Wikipedia entries…but at least you could get the gist.
The only books I ever really read were some of the ones from high school that were required, some Michael Crichton books like Jurassic Park, and the Harry Potter series. How sad is that?
I remember a few months ago I was all gung-ho (where the hell does that expression come from) about reading something…right. I read like 50ish pages of some book and gave up. I’m like that with video games anymore too. I never finish a bunch of the games I have. Hell I’m like that with everything. How do I even keep this blog going?!?
p.s. Thank you Wikipedia:
Gung-ho is a phrase borrowed from Chinese language, frequently used in Chinese as an adjective meaning enthusiastic.
